Quick tips for better wellbeing

Here are a few steps to aid in managing some common challenges. We hope they may be helpful as needed, a quick reminder of how to help restore harmony in discord. 

1 Awareness
Start by becoming aware of your stress and its effects on your mind and body. Take a moment to check in with yourself and recognize the signs of stress, such as racing thoughts, tense muscles, or rapid breathing.

2 Relaxation
Once you're aware of your stress, focus on relaxation techniques to calm your mind and body. Begin by taking slow, deep breaths, allowing your breath to fill your belly. Pay attention to your posture, ensuring it is comfortable and relaxed. Release any tension in your muscles through gentle stretches or progressive muscle relaxation. Take steps to create physical comfort by adjusting your environment or addressing any discomfort.

3 Reframe and self-compassion
Shift your thoughts and emotions by challenging negative thinking patterns. Identify any negative thoughts and replace them with positive or realistic ones. Practice self-compassion by acknowledging that stress is a natural response and that it's okay to feel overwhelmed at times. Give yourself permission to take breaks and engage in activities that bring you joy or relaxation, allowing yourself time to recharge.

1 Be fully present
Give your undivided attention to the speaker. Eliminate distractions and focus solely on what they are saying. Maintain eye contact and show genuine interest in their words.

2 Listen without interrupting
Allow the speaker to express themselves fully without interrupting or interjecting. Practice patience and wait for appropriate pauses to ask questions or provide feedback.

3 Show understanding and empathy
Try to understand the speaker's perspective and emotions. Listen with empathy, putting yourself in their shoes. Respond with empathy and validation, acknowledging their feelings and experiences.

1 Reflect on the reasons for avoidance.
Understanding these reasons will help you address them effectively.

2 Break the task into smaller goals. Consider each goal as just one simple task to do at a time. Complete it (seize the moment!) and continue.

3 Find intrinsic and extrinsic motivators.
Utilizing a combination of motivators can help you find the necessary energy and enthusiasm to overcome avoidance and take the action needed. You will probably feel better afterwards too.
